Electricity is confusing for many people. It is also considered a necessity for our daily lives. So, if we don’t have power to an outlet we normally use and rely on, it becomes a priority to get it fixed ASAP.
Some customers call us because they don’t know what to do. Of course, we are happy to help, but a situation like this is often a quick fix that you can easily resolve on your own.
Check all the GFCI outlets. Each GFCI outlet has two buttons in the middle between the two outlets. One button is labeled RESET, and the other is labeled TEST. If the RESET button is not pressed in, it has tripped because something likely happened. Most commonly, homeowners attempt to use too many devices at the same time that draw more power than designed, so the GFCI trips as a safety precaution.
Simply press the RESET button. If you hear it click, then you have reset the GFCI. If that GFCI was the source of your problem, you will have restored power. If the GFCI does not click, you either don’t have power to that GFCI and should check a breaker inside the electrical panel for your home, or you may have a GFCI that needs replacing.
If you still need help, give us a call. We hope this helps you avoid a troubleshooting visit by an electrician, but if not, we are ready to help!
